Kinja'd!!!

The Tooty Scooty (which is what we’re calling my 2-stroke bicycle project) started! It is running like crap and won’t idle, but it started. Also it looks goooooood .

Full build thread to come, but I’m going to have some quality couch time with the pups for now.

Yeah I'm game.  Baby steps though.  Need to get to the end of the driveway first.

I love it! Is this a kit, or one-off diy affair?

Little bit of both. The engine is a kit, but I bought the bike and upgrades separately .

It looks great, and like a ton of fun.

Hopefully you can get the idle sorted and give an oppo review . Thanks for sharing, because I now totally want one.

Very cool! I live in a semi rural area, so there are a few of these around where people will use them for short jaunts in from just outside town, or use them to get around town. One fellow has a full cheap set of LED lights on his...headlight. Taillight, turn signals. Looking forward to hearing more about th is guy!

Well, that escalated quickly.

Please, for the love of your life, don’t trust those brakes. Long-reach cheap caliper brakes on unprepared painted rims are a recipe for disaster. The rims on that bike were not meant for caliper brakes and will not provide the stopping power you expect. See the rims below? The right one is machined to create a proper braking surface. The left one hasn’t been machined because it’s a fixed-gear and doesn’t need a brake - it stops rolling when the cyclist stops pedaling.

Since you’re already committed , m ake sure there is as little flex in the brakes as possible. If you can rock the bike forward and backward with the front brakes clamped, there’s too much flex. If they flex, when you grab the brakes at speed, there’s a risk of them biting into the tire. That can lead to bad things.

While I was digging around for information on the rims, I found this thread: https://motoredbikes.com/threads/huffy-nel-lusso-safe.49607/

There appears to be some concerns about the fenders on your bike. When motorized and traveling much faster than it was ever intended to, the fenders tend to shake enough to catch the tire tread and get rolled up. If it happens on the rear, it will lock up and cause a skid. If it happens on the front, you’re kissing pavement.

I almost never say this (my wife’s the worry wart), but be safe.

I appreciate the concern and you’re 100% right.  I was expecting the brakes to be mediocre, I wasn’t expecting them to be as bad as they are.  They’re “fine” short term, but they’re the first planned upgrade once I get everything running.

Ok so checking the internet 26" wheels there seem to be a lot of options almost none of which make any sense.  Any vendor suggestions?

Performance bike or Nashbar will work. They have decent customer support. Be sure to order the right size wheels. I saw that a lot of those guys in the forum say to remove the coaster brake. I wouldn’t. The long-reach calipers you have, even with proper rims, are going to have a lot of flex. Keep a coaster  brake on there as a backup.
